Professor Bill Sherman is Director of the Warburg Institute at the University of London. He has published widely on the history of books and readers and on the plays of Shakespeare and his contemporaries. Much of his current work explores the interface between word and image, the relationship between knowledge and power and the surprising connections between the modern and the early modern. This evening’s talk will explore the relationship between the beginning of printing and the emergence of cryptography. Expect an evening of sparkling literary and historical brilliance!
