Featuring: Aidan O’Rourke – Fiddle / Kit Downes – Piano & Harmonium

“O’Rourke’s music, both his writing and playing, is unfailingly strong and imaginative” – The List
“One of the finest pianists of his generation” – Jazzwise on Kit Downes
Aidan O’Rourke is a fiddler, composer, producer and curator. He has pioneered a new sound in Scottish folk music and redefined traditional forms.
Aidan’s new music is about storytelling. Taking inspiration from writer James Robertson, he wrote a tune every day for a year. The result was last year’s sold-out 365: Vol 1, and its follow up 365: Vol 2.
This performance brings together two of the UK’s foremost folk and jazz musicians; Aidan will be presenting the music from his latest album, 365: Vol 2 recorded with Mercury Prize nominee Kit Downes (ECM). His music is built on the beauty of the miniature. It’s a collaboration between artists steeped in tradition but constantly breaking new ground. Aidan’s playing and writing are renowned for deep lyricism and off-kilter twists, here paired with kaleidoscopic harmonies of Kit Downes on harmonium and piano.
