Alexander VII (1599-1667) was a great patron of architecture and the arts with a dynamic vision for town planning, who was responsible, together with the architect Bernini, for the construction of St Peter’s Square in Rome.
The preparation for the enthronement in 1655 of Fabio Chigi, a member of the prominent Sienese banking family, consists of five psalms and other prayers to be said in private by the Pope prior to his elevation.
