A very personal presentation on the life, family connections, history and career of Philip Fowke.
Philip Fowke is respected and admired worldwide as one of Britain’s most distinguished pianists. In 2020 we celebrated Philip’s 70th year with a very special summer school online performance. Philip recorded a new work especially for the summer school. Stephen Hough gave a new work as a birthday present for Philip and the world premiere was given on the summer school in August 2020. This year from the Stoller Hall, we welcome Philip to share with us his life in music.

Murray McLachlan is Head of Keyboard at Chetham’s School of Music as well as Artistic Director of the Chetham’s International Piano Summer School. He has received critical acclaim for intelligent and sensitive interpretations and his superb technical ability, appearing as soloist with most of the leading UK orchestras. McLachlan’s repertoire includes over 40 concertos and 25 recital programmes. He has performed the complete Beethoven piano sonata cycle four times, as well as the complete piano music of Brahms. He has given first performances of works by many composers, including Martin Butler, Ronald Stevenson, Charles Camilleri, Michael Parkin and even Beethoven! He has appeared as soloist with most of the leading UK orchestras. His recognition has been far-reaching, bringing invitations to perform on all five continents.
Founded in 2001, the Chetham’s Piano Summer School is now firmly established as one of the most vibrant, respected and universally friendly events of its kind in the world. Participants enrol from all five continents and are inspired, guided and educated by an extraordinary faculty of over 60 internationally celebrated performer-teachers. This year promises to be no different and to enable access for audiences around the world, all major concerts will be available to watch online.
