Bomberg Biblia Rabbinica
Printed in Venice by Daniel Bomberg, 1524-5
This extremely rare second edition of the Hebrew Rabbinic Bible was one of the earliest purchases by Humphrey Chetham’s trustees. It consists of the Hebrew text accompanied by Rabbinic commentaries, and was printed in Venice by Daniel Bomberg, who was responsible for the creation of the Hebrew type used to print this and other editions.
Chetham’s holdings are strong in the area of early printed Hebraica and Biblical studies. This particular copy of the Bomberg Bible is of additional importance because of its extensive C16th and C17th marginal annotations in the hands of scholars working on the Authorised version of the Bible.
