Part of Chetham’s International Piano Summer School 2025.

Between Wednesday 13 – Saturday 23 August, Chetham’s International Piano Summer School brings world class and legendary musicians to a vibrant, supportive community in central Manchester. Alongside lectures, open lessons and opportunities to develop new skills, you can discover a daily programme of recitals from world-class performers.

Seating for these events will be unallocated. If you have any access requirements, please do let us know at boxoffice@stollerhall.com or on 0333 130 0967 (lines open Tuesday – Thursday 1.30pm – 4pm). You can find out more about access in our building here. Our venue will be open half an hour before each public performance and will close in between performances.

Day Seven

A Young Artists Recital: Ophelia Gordon and Matthew McLachlan, 1.45pm – 2.30pm

We welcome Ophelia Gordon who is studying a Masters degree at Trinity Laban and Matthew McLachlan who has recently completed a Masters in performance at the Royal College of Music.

Lecture “PPP, Passion, Piano, Politics”; A Brief History of Piano music in Iran, particularly last in the 50 years, 5.15pm
Tickets £11.50. FTE/U18 £5.50

Today we welcome Neysun Rouhani to give this fascinating lecture- a brief history of piano in Iran and then the effects of the 1978 Islamic Revolution on the music. Neysun will introduce composers who have written music for piano and performances of their music will be given by young pianists including Deedeh Rouhani, Luca Boston and Rose McLachlan.

A Recital with Murray McLachlan: Anniversaries, 7pm
Tickets: £22.50. FTE/U18 £5.50

2025 is a special year for Maurice Ravel (150th birthday), Erik Satie (centenary of his death) Edward Gregson (80th birthday) Dmitri Shostakovich (50 years since his passing) and Johann Strauss 2nd (bicentenary of his birth). This programme celebrates their wonderful music.

Joanna MacGregor CBE is one of the world’s most innovative musicians, appearing as a concert pianist, curator and conductor. Head of Piano at the Royal Academy of Music and Professor of University of London,  Joanna has just been appointed Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Brighton Philharmonic. As a solo artist Joanna has performed in over eighty countries and as a recording artist Joanna is a veteran of over forty solo recordings, ranging from Bach and Scarlatti to jazz and John Cage.
