About Dominic Mattos
Described as a “countertenor voice of rare beauty” by The Arts Desk for his performance as Apollonia in Buxton International Festival’s production of La Canterina (Haydn), Dominic Mattos is an emerging British countertenor with a versatile voice and extensive experience on stage. Recent work includes covering and stepping in for Sir David Pountney’s Masque of Might (Opera North), Thaddeus Sholto in Northern Opera Group’s Sherlock Holmes: The Sign of the Four, Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina (Opera North – cover), Third Lady in Magic Flute for Merry Opera, the title role in The Dowager’s Oyster for Cantata Dramatica, Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare for Somerset Opera and Narciso in Agrippina for HGO. On the cabaret stage Dominic has appeared at the Blackpool Grand, The Pheasantry, The Jermyn Street Theatre, the Metropolitan Room in New York, and BBC Radio 4. Dominic studied at the RNCM under Jane Irwin, generously supported by the Waverley Fund, a Sybil Tutton Award from Help Musicians UK and the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation.
