An exhibition of drawings from Simon Grennan’s new book Drawing in Drag by Marie Duval. Based on an illustrated Victorian novel from the collection at Chetham’s Library, the book focuses on the manners and habits of twenty-first century leisure culture, and its roots in the great cities of the nineteenth century. Artist and graphic novelist Simon Grennan reimagines Duval’s work froma contemporary perspective, adopting her name as a pseudonym and producing drawings in drag, as a woman.

Simon Grennan will be in conversation with Christopher Breward about his new work.

Christopher Breward is an historian of fashion, interested in its relationship to social and sexual identity. He has authored numerous books and is Director of Collection and Research at the National Galleries of Scotland and Visiting Professor of Cultural History at the University of Edinburgh.
