James Crossley

This week our 101 Treasures page is devoted to the fascinating character of James Crossley, Manchester man of letters, prolific book collector, antiquarian, founder of the Chetham Society and Honorary Librarian of Chetham’s in the last years before his death in 1883. To find out more about this notable figure who was much in demand at dinner parties and wore a distinctive long black cloak as he strode through the streets of the city.
